The Ring 10 boxing charity is helping comatose prizefighter Magomed Abdusalamov

The Ring 10 boxing charity, a nonprofit foundation established in 2010, is accepting donations on behalf of Magomed Abdusalamov and his family.

The 32-year-old Abdusalamov (18-1, 18 KOs) lost a close unanimous decision to Cuban Mike Perez on November 2 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

A 6-foot-3 southpaw who was a decorated Russian amateur champion, Abdusalamov went to nearby Roosevelt Hospital shortly after the bout where a small blood clot was found on his brain.

Abdusalamov, who is married with three daughters, was subsequently placed into a medically induced coma.

Unfortunately, while undergoing brain surgery, the tough Russian suffered a stroke and other complications.

Consequently, Abdusalamov is again comatose and on a life support machine.

"His temperature shot up to 103, so his body wasn't ready yet (to come out of the coma), so they put him back on life support and (into) the medically induced coma," promoter Nathan Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing told "Terrible setback. No clue when they are trying to bring him out again."

Abdusalamov’s periodically regained consciousness over the past couple of weeks.

However, “Mago” remains hospitalized and in critical condition.

In stark contrast to other major sports, prizefighting does not have a union to represent its competitors.

Hence, Ring 10 and Lewkowicz are working to aid with Abdusalamov’s ample medical expenses.

A 501(c) 3 organization, all donations sent to Ring 10 will go directly to Abdusalamov and his family.
