“We must obey God rather than men!”—Acts 5:29
I want to make clear from the beginning, this article is written by a natural born citizen of the Untied States of America, and from a Christian viewpoint. I love the land of my birth and will fight to protect the rights of her citizens. There is a long list of patriots in my family history, among them, Samuel Chase, one of our founding fathers and signer on the Delcaration of Independence. Chase is my Grandma Cammack's maiden name.
Having said this, I need to ask all of you who support our freedoms to prayerfully consider taking action again to protect those freedoms.
This Saturday, January 5, 2013 has been set as the date to stand together to support Hobby Lobby, a Christian owned business. As some of you may already know, this family owned business is in a fight with our government to protect their business and beliefs. The Green family, who own Hobby Lobbby, are unwilling to provide Obamacare for their employees because they see conflicts in its coverage with their beliefs. In refusing to do so, they could face up to $1.3 million per day in fines, which would be more than $40 million in only one month. Like many business owners, the conflict to provide coverage isn't just financial, it's a moral issue as well. There are requirements within Obamacare, such as the morning after pill, which the Green's feel morally obligated to resist. It is their belief as Christians, that it is something they don't feel morally comfortable in supporting.
But the government says they must provide the healthcare or be fined...heavily.
Never mind the fact that the Eighth Amendment says: "Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted." Never mind that the Frst Amendment clearly states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." The government has spoken and the people are expected to obey.
Sounds a little like history doesn't it? Remember Moses in Egypt? Dare I even mention Nazi Germany?
OK, I've said enough.
I implore each of you who call yourself Christian to pray for wisdom and discernment in the coming days. I ask you as American citizens to carefully consider what is happening in our government, and question whether or not this is the United States of America we want to pass on to future generations.
I beg you to consider what your freedom means to you and what you are willing to do to protect it.
And last, but not least, please consider shopping at Hobby Lobby this Saturday and support other businesses you know that are struggling to survive in this newest wave of governmental control.
We rest in the knowledge that God is ultimately in control, but He has also given us the freedom to choose to obey or disobey Him when He calls us to action.
"And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" Joshua 24:15
