Usually when we talk about the environment the discussion is about the global or nationwide environment. There is one environment that does not fit. It is the holiday environment. It is the season to be jolly. Christmas and New Years are just around the corner. This takes us back to our childhoods giving and getting presents, family time, going to Grandma’s, Yule logs, hot chocolate and more. New Years brings us a fresh start. A do over so to speak.
This is the warmth of the season and all most all of us cherish the moments in anticipation of Christmas Eve or Morning. It gives us the ability to reach out to our friends, neighbors, and particularity to those who are hungry and homeless. We feel good about this contribution to those we love and those in need. For some reason a majority of people’s glowing feeling subsides as well go into the New Year. The promises we have made to ourselves about losing weight, taking more time off, exercising more, being more frugal etc. Buy the first of February almost all of these have stopped happing.
The problem is that we do not carry the holiday environment forward. We do not have the stamina or will to maintain the level of joy and happiness that we enjoy during this time of year. You are in control of this feeling. We all get down from time to time and some get really bummed out. The key to keeping the holidays in your heart is difficult but simple. Keep on contribution to the charities you have a feeling for; take on small to medium projects until you feel capable of a larger one. Do not overload yourself. Sounds contradictory but you make the decision to say yes or no. There is nothing wrong with saying “no” that is not a passion in your life.
Keep this environment in your heart and home.
