UPDATE 1/19/13: Wonderful news! Dumpling has been adopted. Congratulations and good luck in your new home, Dumpling. May you spend many happy years there. Thank you to her new family and to all who shared for her.
Dumpling waited 18 months at Yonkers Animal Shelter in Yonkers, NY for someone to come and take her home.
And on December 22, 2012, the staff and volunteers waved goodbye with tears of joy as this beautiful girl finally left to spend Christmas with her new family.
Or so they all thought.
When they placed her photo in the "Yonkers Happy Tails! 2012" album, no one anticipated that it would quickly become the first sad tale of 2013.
In just two weeks, Dumpling found herself back where she started. If you think you've heard every ridiculous reason for an animal's return, you might add another to your list.
Dumpling was returned because she didn't get along with the neighbor's dog.
Her new adopter was told multiple times that she should be the only pet. What's most difficult to understand is that the neighbor's dog should have no bearing on Dumpling's life. They were informed she was not dog friendly, and keeping them apart shouldn't have been a problem for her new owner - they weren't expected to live together.
Dumpling is described as sweet, loving, and friendly with people. She did nothing wrong and was brought back anyway.
The confused, sad look in her eyes when she is returned to a shelter cage is heartbreaking to watch and will likely bring you to tears. After so long waiting, it's very unfair that she had a taste of freedom only to have it snatched away so quickly through no fault of her own.
So now this sweet girl is ready to move on to find her real "special someone." She has waited 18 months for happiness and we have to help by sharing her story to reach her perfect match.
The one who will love her, care for her, and be her best friend for the rest of her life.
