Matthew and Gunnar Nelson are touring the nation honoring their father, Ricky Nelson. The Nelson twins bring the Ricky Nelson Remembered tribute show to Central Iowa next weekend, when they stop at Terrible's Lakeside Casino on Friday, February 8 and Saturday, February 9. Tickets for the two 8 p.m. shows are $10, $15, and $20, and they may be purchased online through Red Truck Tickets. You must be 21 or older to attend either show.
Ricky Nelson was one of the biggest names in entertainment for 3 decades. Nelson placed 20 songs in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, including #1 smashes like "Poor Little Fool" and "Travelin' Man". Ricky Nelson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. He also starred on television with his parents in The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, and on the big screen in the western Rio Bravo, alongside John Wayne and Dean Martin. Nelson received a Golden Globe nomination for the latter role. Ricky Nelson died in a plane crash in 1985 at the age of 45.
Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, twin sons of Ricky and Kris Harmon, followed in Ricky's musical footsteps. The brothers started the band Nelson and experienced instant success with their first album, After the Rain, in 1990. The album went platinum, and climbed as high as #17 on the Billboard 200. After the Rain produced the band's only four hits: the title track (#6), "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection" (#1), "More Than Ever" (#14), and "Only Time Will Tell" (#28).
Nelson released several more albums, but never matched the success of their debut. The band still tours, and Matthew and Gunnar also play in the celebrity all-star rock band Scrap Metal, as well as their tribute band Ricky Nelson Remembered.
