After one season, the daytime talk show host Ricki Lake, “The Ricki Lake Show” has been canceled. Lake show launched in September of 2012, but apparently failed to get ratings the producer was expecting (sources: The Hollywood Reporter). Current ratings amongst one main demographic group of women, ages 25-54 had a 0.5 rating and most of her shows seem to be directed towards this particular demographic group. After failing to get expected ratings, the show has been canceled.
Lake recently tried to make a comeback to daytime talk after a nine year hiatus from the talk show business. She was a very popular daytime talk show host whose show aired from 1993-2004. Apparently she returned to a more competitive daytime audience discussing a variety of issues from childhood and adult mental illness, suicide prevention, raising children, homosexuality, a variety of family issues and more.
The show had to not only reach a certain goal for ratings, but it had to also compete against other, what seems to be, more viewed daytime talk shows with higher ratings; such as, the Steve Harvey Show and Trisha Goddard Show, which both these shows will apparently be returning for another season. When originally promoting the show to air in September, she was being announced as “America’s Girlfriend.”
Although the show was due to launch, Lake was criticized for not being an actual therapist or doctor, but she did have guess therapist and doctors that would appear on the show. Steve Harvey has reportedly admitted that he isn’t a doctor or specialist in anyway, but it seems ratings were on his side because he is apparently getting another season.
Lake says the issues she addresses on her show are very important and she feels very passionate about speaking on these issues. She says, she certainly plans to continue with her passion to help others with her voice and therefore; she still plans to speak on these issues using some other type of platform.
