Of all the entries in the Characters of Gaming art series to date, none have received as much attention as the game character gender swap. This gender bending art series showed gamers how their beloved heroes would appear as members of the opposite sex. In addition to being featured on gaming sites such as Kotaku, Gonintendo, JoystickDivision, and more; the original gaming gender swap has inspired game design contests and has even opened a gateway for a Game Informer interview.
With all of the hype, it only comes natural that our original art series would eventually return to showcase more video game gender benders - and that time has come. Following is part two of the Game Character Gender Swap. This time in full color, digitally airbrushed glory. Check out the new entries in the slide show to the right.
More About the Gender Swaps:
Games today give players an increasing amount of control over their play-time. Whether it be through sandbox titles allowing gamers to randomly create their own adventures or the growing list of RPG's that allow players to create and mold their characters exactly how they want, gamers presently have an unprecedented amount of control over their in-game experience.
Current franchises, like Mass Effect and Fable, that put gamers into the role of a specific hero (as opposed to allowing them to create one from scratch) are now allowing players to pick the sex of their lead character.
What would happen if other developers brought this gender change idea into their titles, allowing gamers to pick the sex of famous preset characters? Here's a look at what some of gaming's most well known characters would appear if their gender was changeable too.
About the Characters of Gaming Series:
Originally created to honor the most famous characters found in the world of video games, the series became much more popular once original (and highly stylized) art began to accompany each individual character's biography.
The art encompasses stars from gaming's past and present by featuring classic characters such as Pac-Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, and everybody's favorite plumber Mario; while mixing in current favorite.
