The Retro Dome in San Jose Gears Up For a Love-Centric Month of Movies

February 14, 2014 - SAN JOSE, Calif. – Throughout February, The Retro Dome will screen a series of retro films, all centered around one underlying theme: Love. The month started off with a classic: the epic love story, Casablanca. It was paired with Disney’s Cinderella, shown for the very last time before going back into the Disney vault. Weekend two meant a Double Bill of West Side Story and Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. The Retro Dome has chosen timeless tales and fun flicks to fill the rest of the month.

“We wanted to choose some of our favorite movies to show this month and took fan suggestions, too, to create our series,” said owner Scott Guggenheim, who along with his wife, Shannon and brother Steve, screen films at Century 21, one of the Winchester Domes in San Jose, located at 3161 Olsen Drive. “Next we’re screening Hairspray, our fan favorite sing-along for Valentine’s Day weekend.”

Between the all-star cast and the message of doing what’s right despite what others say, this fun-filled film makes a perfect Girls Night Out or Date Night. “Or, bring the kids to seen this fabulous movie musical on the big screen with a theater full of hipshaking friends like you, “ says owner Shannon Guggenheim. “Grab your can of Ultra Clutch, throw on your dancing shoes and shimmy on down to The Retro Dome

February 14-16 for the Hairspray Sing-Along, where everyone is a participant. Audiences are encouraged to dress in their favorite movie-themed clothing to swivel their hips and sing the songs along with the hosts of the show.”

February ends with an unprecedented treat: “Pizarro, Sal Pizzarro.” San Jose Mercury News Columnist and James Bond aficionado, Sal Pizarro, will be hosting our mini- Bond marathon. Sal picked some of his favorite flicks and agreed to co-host with our very own Shannon Guggenheim. The three-movie series starts on February 21 and 22
with The Spy Who Loved Me. Nobody does it better than Bond, and he proves it again in this explosively entertaining adventure. Come for the talk, stay for the show, and save the date for Goldfinger in March.
