The Republic F.C. advances in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with a 2-1 victory

Sacramento Republic F.C. defeated the Ventura County Fusion 2-1 in front of a rabid home crowd of 1,347 at Cosumnes River College Stadium Wednesday night. A spot in the third round of the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup was on the line and both teams were eager to advance. The Fusion held a 1-0 lead in the first half when Jordan Rideout of Ventura County (assisted by Agustin Cazarez) scored in the 36th minute. The hot night added an attrition element to the game as players from both teams were affected by it.

The second half was all Sacramento as the refreshed players came out and took it to the Fusion. The Republic scored their first goal in the 59th minute when Harrison Delbridge (assisted by Rodrigo Lopez) put the home team on the board. Sacramento scored again in the 78th minute when Dakota Collins kicked his second goal of the season giving the Republic a 2-1 lead that they would never relinquish and would defensively hold on for the victory.

With the win, Sacramento advances to the third round and will face the Fresno Fuego on May 28. The Fuego defeated the Orange County Blues F.C. 2-0.
