In this Examiner article posted recently, the author takes a look at what she views as the sexual promiscuity of women and then continues to call them sinners and shame them for it. This degradation and “slut shaming” must be met with full resistance from the humanism movement. The devaluing of a woman’s worth as being tied to their “sexual purity” is hurtful and harmful to women around the world.
A woman’s body is just that, their body. No scripture or belief in magical deities can change that. No set of rules, no matter how much someone believes them to be divine can define how a woman should treat herself.
This is nothing more than a religious ploy to rule over women in the same old fashioned authoritarian way taught throughout the bible and passed down continuously though fundamental religious rhetoric.
In the article, the author states, "When an individual engages in fornication, they are in the same hour welcoming destruction into their body." How on earth can someone claim that a woman has destroyed her body by using it for one of its biological purpose and how can this claim be made by anyone who claims to have any form of moral compass? The idea that ones purity can be defined from an outside source or that one can be made impure by engaging in a sexual relationship is downright childish.
A woman’s body may very well be a “temple”, but it is her temple and no amount of religious bullying can redefine that. Religious misogyny must end immediately and women and men around the world should be encouraged to speak out against it.
Women and men everywhere should be celebrating and loving their bodies, not ashamed of it or ashamed to use it and explore ones sexuality. If you wish to wait until marriage, do so because you want to, not out of fear of an everlasting punishment that will not come.
If you wish to explore and enjoy your body and give into any sexual urge you see fit between consenting partners, then by all means do so, because this is your life and no amount of mythical doctrine has the right to define this for you. Love your body and love yourself.
