This Friday, Seattle's most literary band (wait, you disagree?) will play at Elliott Bay Book Company in Capitol Hill. The bookstore starts rocking at 7 pm.

The band consists of Seattle authors Jennie Shortridge (Love, Water Memory and more), Garth Stein (The Art of Racing in the Rain, A Sudden Light coming 9/30/14, and more) , and Stevie Kallos (Broken for You and more) plus "Trailing Spouses" Matt Gani (Jennie Shortridge's husband), Paul Mariz (Laurie Frankel's husband) and Ben Bauermeister (Erica Bauermeister's husband). They have opened for book launch parties and played events for booksellers, but this will be their first-ever solo gig-- a concert just about them and their music.

The authors in the band are a part of Seattle7Writers, a non-profit that supports literacy organizations in our communities to create connections between writers, readers, booksellers, and librarians. They play covers of rock, classic rock, some original music, and even an occasional jazz standard. (For a selection of songs, visit Jennie Shortridge's page here.)

You can enjoy two live sets downstairs at Elliott Bay Book Company in their Reading Room. Autographed books will be available for sale, so you can score great tunes and great tomes all at the same time.

The Rejections & Trailing Spouses are accepting donations at the door to benefit Jewish Family Service, which provides ESL and literacy support for refugees and immigrants. For more information about Jewish Family Service, you can visit their website,
