The Red Sea or the Reed Sea
Anyone reading the New International Version of the Bible (or possibly other newer translations) will find in a footnote for each of these references where “the Red Sea” is translated a note stating that the Hebrew for these words is “Yam Suph” meaning “Sea of Reeds”. Even the two references in the New Testament in the NIV have such a footnote. The following exhaustive listing of references is copied from the Color-Coded Bible, King James Version, produced by Sterling Ministries, © 2005.

A comparison study of three of the earlier English translations upon which the KJV is based provides the following information:
The Douay-Rheims translates “the red sea” in all the above references and also translates the Red Sea in 2 Chronicles 8:17 where the KJV merely translates “sea”.
The Geneva Bible translates the Red Sea in all the above references although sometimes it is spelled “the redde sea” due to the fact that when the Geneva Bible was published the English language spelling had not been standardized yet.
The Bishops Bible translates the Red Sea in all the above references except that it sometimes spells it the redde sea or the read sea, again due to the fact that when the Bishops Bible was published the English language spelling had not been standardized.
The Strong's reference numbers are included in each reference above. Strong defines each as follows:
#5488 a reed, especially of papyrus: flag, red, [sea] weed
#5489 the Reed (sea), Red Sea
#5492 a hurricane; Red Sea, atorm, tempest, whirlwind
#2281 the sea (gen. or spec.)
Other possible considerations:
The topography of that region is probably not the same.
The fact that Solomon had a navy of ships in that body of water in Eziongeber beside Eloth as reported in 1 Kings 9:26 makes it difficult to believe that the “sea of reeds” was substantial enough to maintain a naval fleet.
