People all around the country are hurting right now. The mood of the country is one of uncertainty and fear. Money is tight right now to say the least. If given the choice between purchasing a $3 piece of organic fruit or a $1 double cheeseburger from a local fast food joint, what choice will the average person make?

In this uncertain economy, the choice will be the $1 double cheeseburger. Not only will the individual choose the fatty cheeseburger because of price, he/she will choose it because of convenience. Most people these days must work a fulltime job and often two fulltime jobs just to make ends meet.

People know that the fruit is the healthier choice, but it costs money to eat healthily. However, if given the choice, most people would shop at an organic grocery store such as Whole Foods Market, which offers fresh organic, non-processed foods that are healthy, delicious, and nutritious.

But for most Americans, this is not the situation. Most of their shopping is done at Wal-mart Superstore, fast food joints, and local grocery stores. Most of their purchases are boxed and canned goods. Why? It is what they can afford right now. Americans do what they have to do to survive.

Unfortunately, if Americans do not take control of what they are eating, they will not survive long enough to realize that they are hurting themselves by eating foods filled with fat, sodium, sugar, and fillers. For those who would like to monitor and control what they eat as this recession continues to pound on the United States, try using a nutritional fast food calculator to assist in controlling fast food intake.

I agree. I wish there were more healthy, affordable, and fast options!

Like you said, I love the stuff from Whole Foods market, but it's also location. You don't find a Whole Foods Market or a Trader Joes in an area of town that's "Lower Class"...the people that COULD benefit from it, but can't afford it...

And currently being unemployed...I can't afford the 20 mile drive to and from the nearest Whole Foods Market when Wally World is 3 miles down the road...plus the prices...

I have to agree that most people show at Wally World for thier foods. However if people took the time to search flyers for the best deals they would see that many Stores like Shaws have great deals on fruits ad vegetables. They also have great deals sometimes on meats. I think instead of looking for the quick fix and making exuses about money people should stop and make time to choose wisely. There are affordable foods but it does take time to due the research ad maybe shop around in order to get the great buys...
