The real State of the Union: America's Calvary lacks a Cross

Tonight we will hear more rhetoric, spun by President Obama, to propagandize, to do damage control, and to manipulate the affection of the American people. Everything, according to Mr. Obama, will sound hunky-dory. Yet, what is obvious to anyone with a pulse--or anyone who is not a socialist or an anarchist--is that everything isn't as it should be.

America is a great ship, with multiple leaks, taking on water. What makes matters most disturbing, however, is the fact that our leader, our Commander-in-Chief, views the sinking of the ship as 'progress.'

So what can save us in this cold ocean of socialism, secularism, and progressivism? David, Jesus, and a true sense of family.

"Then David, girt with a linen apron, came dancing before the LORD with abandon..." 2 Samuel 6:12-15, 17-19

King David was far from a perfect man. Ask Uriah, and Bathsheba. What David was, however, was a man with a heart for God. Yet, of utmost importance for our consideration of American leadership, is that David foreshadowed the true leader in Jesus the Christ. For David exemplified what true leadership really looks like in the prophet, priest, and servant king.

What is most tragic about tonight's 'State of the Union' address is that America has lost sight of these three qualities in a leader.

Instead of electing a prophet who reads 'the signs of the times' in God's revealed Will, we have elected a rhetorical champion who reads the will of the progressive-elite into the lives of the people of his times. Instead of electing a priest, in spirit, who sacrifices what's best for the common good of the nation, we have elected a calculated class-divider, who seeks economic redistribution and a European welfare state. But what hurts the most is that instead of electing a servant-President, serving through the Constitution, through our Judaeo-Christian heritage, we have elected a tyrant, a proud peacock, and a man hell-bent on changing America in ways unfriendly to the spirit of the founders of this great nation.

"Lift up, O gates, your lintels;
reach up, you ancient portals,
that the king of glory may come in!
" Psalm 24:7-10

So what does Obama-bashing accomplish? Absolutely nothing!

Words typed, printed, read, and forgotten mean nothing. What will 'change' America in the change really necessary for our nation's return to glory is CHANGE of heart in the direction of God. Unless Catholic and non-Catholic American's return to the Lord of both Justice and Peace, leaving behind the lords of 'social justice,' we will crumble like the Roman Empire.

Unless American disciples of Christ reform their faith from within, re-embracing Jesus Christ in Word and Sacrament, the idols who rule our nation will run us into the ground.

In this ground there will be no national resurrection!

"'Who are my mother and my brothers?' And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, 'Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.'” Mark 3:31-35

Family is the core of American greatness. Family is not jargon. It is not the construct of humanity. It is in the design of God's very essence as Trinity. Our greatest family is all of humanity. Then we have the family of discipleship in Jesus Christ--in baptism.

Understandably, it is hard to feel 'family' in all the created world with all the wars and all the historical animosity. Only in the Cross of Jesus Christ can we overcome that. But what makes our Lord's Sacred Heart truly ache with sadness is the lack of family within the community of His disciples.

Because of all the Catholic/Christian family squabbles, the socialists, the secularists, the anarchists, and the anti-Christian's have been given free reign to destroy traditional marriage and family. While we've been squabbling, they've been destroying.

Therefore, the real 'State of the Union' reveals that there is no David in charge, there is not enough Jesus in our hearts, and that the American family in tatters.
