The real 'skinny' on the new skinny at Sacramento Fashion Week's casting call

Sacramento Fashion Week (SACFW) announced on January 7, 2013, that they will be holding two open casting calls for runway models - January 12th & 13th in Sacramento California.

In last year’s showcase, over a 100 models participated, and with this year’s addition of a 3rd showcase for boutiques SACFW is estimated to have 150 models.

With this expansion of Sacramento Fashion Week 2013, there is great need to discover new talent in the upcoming model casting call that will help carry out this vision.

Interested models need only attend one of the open calls.

The January 12th casting call will take place at the International Academy of Design & Technology, 2450 Del Paso Road Sacramento, CA 95834

January 13th casting will occur at Capsity Office, 2572 21st Street Sacramento, CA 95818.

But the real skinny on this search for runway models is the strict new requirement for Body Mass Index (BMI), a measurement obtained by dividing your weight in pounds by your height squared (height measure in inches) and multiplying that value times 703.

This year, SACFW has adopted tough new minimum BMI requirements established by Milan Fashion Week .

18 is the magic number - the new minimum BMI or minimum “skinniness” that will be allowed.

According to Livestrong.org a BMI less than 18.5 is considered underweight by the American Dietetic Association while a BMI between 18.5 and 25 is considered normal weight.

And, although it may be considered better than being overweight, being underweight can lead to a variety of health risks.
