The REAL reason Seal suddenly stopped wearing his wedding ring from Heidi Klum

The Internet is buzzing with the news about Seal’s yellow nail polish, and the absence of his wedding ring from Heidi Klum, for the first time since he and Heidi announced their split.

E! Online and TMZ.com were among the first to report that Seal was seen striding through the airport in Sydney, Australia, sporting bright yellow nail polish, but no wedding ring. Noticeably missing was Seal’s previously ubiquitous wedding band.

News outlets and celebrity gossip sites have gone into overdrive speculating as to what Seal’s ringless finger might mean.

But the real meaning could turn out to be something entirely different from what most media outlets think.

What Does Seal’s Missing Wedding Ring Mean?

Not all media outlets agree on the meaning of Seal’s missing ring.

The general consensus is that Seal wore bright yellow nail polish to call attention to the absence of his wedding ring, and indicate that something has definitely changed. But there are differing opinions as to exactly what those changes might be.

On the Ellen DeGeneres Show last month, Seal said he continued to wear his wedding ring because it was a token of how he felt about Heidi Klum and the 8 wonderful years they spent together.

Seal added,

Just because we have decided to separate doesn't necessarily mean you take off your ring and you're no longer connected to that person.

We will be connected in many ways for the rest of our lives ... through our children and also through this tremendous admiration, respect and love that we have for each other.

Further expanding on what his wedding band meant to him, Seal continued

It stands for respect, it stands for loyalty, it stands for incredible memories and it stands for these four little miracles and Heidi making five that have come into my life over the past eight years.

Seal concluded the discussion of why he was still wearing his ring with this statement:

Right now it feels really comfortable on my hand so I have no intentions of taking it off anytime soon.

Consequently many news outlets like iVillage and the Seattle Post Intelligencer see the removal of Seal’s ring as a sign that he and Heidi no longer have that special connection he spoke of, and they have decided to cut ties with each other and move in separate directions with their lives.

Others, like the New York Daily News, Global Grind, and the New York Post, think that Seal’s missing wedding ring is an admission of defeat, and that Seal has finally resigned himself to the reality that his marriage to Heidi cannot be saved.

But both groups of media outlets could be wrong.

2 Simple Explanations, and Why the Media Could be Wrong

Could the media have misinterpreted the reason Seal has suddenly stopped wearing his wedding ring?

The absence of Seal’s wedding ring may not be a statement about his marriage to Heidi Klum, at all.

There could be much simpler explanations as to why Seal’s wedding ring was not on his hand.

Seal Forgot – maybe Seal just forgot to wear his ring. Maybe he took it off to wash his hands and unintentionally left it on the side of the sink.
Seal’s Fingers are Swollen – Maybe Seal had to remove his ring during his flight to Australia because his fingers were swollen, as you can clearly see in the slideshow on the left. Remember, he just got off a 14 hour flight from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia. On extended flights, many people experience swelling of their hands. Seal probably had the ring in his pocket when he left the plane. The photos on the left, and below show close-ups of Seal’s hand wearing his wedding ring on several different occasions since he and Heidi announced their split. Only the pictures taken this week show Seal with a swollen hand. It’s no coincidence that these are the ONLY picture in which Seal is not wearing his ring.

Seal is Playing a Private Joke on the Media – Perhaps knowing that he was under scrutiny, and anticipating that he’d have to remove his ring during the flight, Seal decided to have a little fun at the media’s expense. He may have intentionally worn bright yellow nail polish to highlight, rather than hide, his ringless finger. And as you can see, the media took the bait. Media outlets everywhere are reporting the story of Seal without his wedding ring. Check out the smile on Seal’s face as he makes his way through the airport. He looks like he’s really enjoying his little prank, and having a good laugh at the media’s expense.

Now about that Yellow Nail Polish

Until this week, Seal wore a somber dark brown shade of nail polish which many interpreted as a sign that Seal was mourning for the demise of his marriage to Heidi.

Close-ups of Heidi Klum holding hands with the couple’s children showed that she was wearing the same shade. Maybe for Seal and Heidi, matching nail polish is a “his and hers” couples thing.

Now that Seal is wearing bright yellow nail polish, people are saying it’s because Seal is happy again.

But Seal could be wearing yellow nail polish simply because he let his daughters paint his nails.

Or he could be wearing yellow polish because like Johnny Depp and Cash/ David Warren, Adam Lambert he’s following the new trend of colored nail polish for men, as mentioned in a recent article in the Daily Mail.

Has anyone checked Heidi Klum’s hands lately to see if she’s wearing yellow nail polish too?

Or is she still wearing the same somber shade of brown?

The nail polish colors, and the rings – or lack thereof – could be significant.

Or it could mean nothing at all.

But until, Seal, Heidi, or someone close to them, give us a clue, all we can do is speculate. We have no way of knowing for sure.
