British designers Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff presented their Meadham Kirchhoff Fall 2013 collection on the TopShop Show Space runway during London Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013/14 at on February 19, 2013 in London, England. And not without its measure of fashion theatrics…
Tiara-donning models strutted their latest offering, teaming a mid-calf length dress with rolled up tapered pants that looked a lot like “harem pants” as though perhaps a “shalwar and kameez” ensemble from the Indian Subcontinent! The Raj lives on…
Another ever so slight oddity was their quite comely nautical white with black trim dress, topped off with a netted veil – perhaps like a lacy Spanish mantilla? Oh, Meadham and Kirchhoff are all over the place with this fall collection!
Other more “normal” ensembles included a black and white zig zag striped long-sleeved dress teamed with a ruffled black jacket. The same ruffled fabric is available as an above-the-knee skirt.
A grey and black flared brocade jacket with a high collar (not mandarin however!) was teamed with fitted pants, Indian style.
Similarly, a glossy black tunic dress with ruffle-shouldered long sleeves was teamed with slightly rouched tight white pants.
More interesting ensembles, as a taupe brown skirt suit is teamed with a glossy black blouse, a demure cream velvet ankle-length dress with contrasting black collar and black buttons that is teamed with a slick black jacket and a positively Medieval black velvet dress with contrasting white lace on its peterpan collar and hem. Their metallic gold and pewter shoes are really “tricked-out” as well…
And then there was a delicately printed yellow floral dress with black collar and black lace hem that looked a little Victorian!
The individual pieces are not particularly “theatrical” it’s just how they’re combined and accessorized is what makes all the difference.
Each one of us will, of course, interpret this dynamic collection uniquely. But essentially, what Meadham and Kirchhoff are saying in their Fall 2013 collection is “dare to be different!”
One wonders, however, what inspires designers Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff…
