The Oakland Raiders released linebacker Rolando McClain on Friday as was expected by many. The move was expected from the Raiders after McClain was suspended last season for two games for conduct detrimental to the team—having an outburst during practice and yelling at the his coach, Dennis Allen.
The NFL web page reported on Friday that the Raiders released the linebacker on that same day. The move was considered to be a salary cap move according to General Manager Reggie McKenzie.
Rolando McClain was number eight, overall, pick of the 2010 NFL Draft. He was set to make $4 million for the 2013 season.
The linebacker had a great year in 2011. McClain had a career-high 99 tackles and five sacks. However, McClain never lived up to his potential.
"I'd like to thank the Raiders for giving me an opportunity to play in the NFL," McClain said in a statement, "I'm disappointed that it hasn't worked out better, but I'm very excited and thankful for the Raiders allowing me to get a fresh start. I will miss my teammates and wish them and the Raiders organization good luck going forward."
