The question method: When

The last question to ask yourself is “When”. This is all about timing and knowing what your family can handle. As passionate as you may be about trying to take in a foster child, you have to seriously evaluate if this is the right time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with realizing that you may need to wait a few months or even a few years until you and your family are ready. Rushing into becoming a foster family is not a good idea and can have a negative impact on your family as a whole. Timing is critical to the development and progress of a foster family and should not be taken lightly.

• When is the best time for my family to take a foster child in?
• When will my children be old enough to handle the situation?
• Is my family financially and emotionally stable at this point?
• What time of year would be best for me?
• When can I start?
