After a long road back from her battle with an assortment of ailments over the last year or so, the legendary 'Queen of Soul', Aretha Franklin made good on her promise to return to Brooklyn’s Coney Island Seaside concert stage for a show that would never be forgotten.
The Diva of all divas wowed the county of Kings with the sound of her sweet soulful voice and a plethora of memorable hits for the thousands of lucky fans who were able to gain access to this monumental event!
Seaside's Concert crowd venue capacity was so overwhelmed by Ms. Franklin’s performance that thousands of additional fans had to listen from Coney Island’s boardwalk and the beach. One fan stated: “I don’t care if I can’t see her; as long as I’m in her company I’m happy.”
The 69-year-old soul icon kicked off her 90-minute show with a cover of Jackie Wilson’s ‘Higher and Higher’, stating to her audience: “Brooklyn your love just keeps lifting me up higher and higher.”
Despite an injured toe, Ms. Franklin in all her sassiness danced and hit all octaves of her legendary musical pipes with grace and ease. She was donned in a beautiful purple ensemble that complimented not only her everlasting beauty but the beautiful songbird that lives inside this wondrous woman of soulful song.
New York’s favorite politician Brooklyn Borough president Marty Markowitz exclaimed: “Aretha Franklin’s concert drew the largest audience that has ever attended the Seaside Concert series.”
The undisputed Grammy Award winning Queen of Soul breezed through her hits such as “Don’t Play That Song Again”, “Think” from the Blues Brothers film soundtrack and "Natural Woman."
She also sang several of her 1980’s hits such as ‘Jump to it’, ‘Freeway of Love’ as well as her smash duet with Lauren Hill ‘A Rose’ which lifted the audience to even another level of appreciation for this Crowned Diva of all Divas.
During one point of the show Ms Franklin reminisced about a dream affair for one of the legendary Temptations who remained nameless, Ms Franklin stated prior to the song “I can speak about this now because he as well as I are divorced now, so it’s okay to talk about it now.” She then broke into the angelic love song “Daydreaming.”
Aretha Franklin also debuted a song from her current album “A Woman Falling Out of Love," titled ‘How Long I’ve Been Waiting," currently available at Wal-Mart stores and Walmart.com.
Ms Franklin ended her phenomenal jam session with her signature hit R.E.S.P.E.C.T, which is what she deserves and received from her mesmerized audience who traveled from all over the city and beyond to see this soulful R/B Icon in full action.
