The Qualities and Their Influence on the Signs

The manner in which an individual adapts to a certain situation is also known as the mode of activity. Studying this mode of activity is relevant when trying to describe someone’s personality. Another name for the modes is quadruplicities. They are divided into three groups – Cardinal signs, Fixed signs, and Mutable signs – each comprising four planets.

The Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. The Fixed ones include Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius. And he Mutable group comprises Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. In order to find out which type a person is, the astrologer has to analyze the respective person’s birth chart, to determine how many planets are in each group (each planet has certain points assigned to it), and then sum up the points of these planets. If there are eight points concentrated in one mode, then there’s a preponderance in that element (and therefore an absence of a different element).

In the following paragraphs we’ll take a look at the different modes and what their preponderance or absence means for an individual.

Cardinal Preponderance
The term ‘cardinal’ refers to movement. Ambitious and positive, you are the kind of person who is constantly active. Cardinal signs manifest constructive initiative, but sometimes they act without planning which doesn’t lead to good results.

This combination of qualities suggests that you are inclined towards holding rigidly to your opinions. You focus on the here and now and you are usually able to achieve whatever it is that you set your mind on. You are the kind of person who at times pushes too hard and too soon.

Cardinal and Mutable signs are people who seek variety and change in their activities. Decision-making may sometimes represent a problem and you tend to dwell on the past far longer than it is necessary. The Mutable quality makes you flexible in both thinking and approach. Your main characteristic is that you are devoted rather than ambitious.

Cardinal Absence
A lack of cardinal signs suggests a lack in initiative and drive unless these attributes are shown elsewhere in the map. Not one to pursue desires actively, you sometimes look to others to satisfy them for you. You wait for opportunities rather than forcing the issue and making your own breaks.

Fixed Preponderance
This quality renders you rigid and inflexible in your ideals and goals. However, your faults are compensated by perseverance. Generally speaking, you achieve whatever you set your mind no. You are incredibly strong-willed and closed to external influences. Your greatest strengths are constancy, loyalty, and dependability.

This combination leads to the appearance of certain inner conflicts. While these qualities are very different and contradictory, you have the ability to express both: on one hand, a rigid and fixed approach, and on the other, adaptability and openness. The most important thing for you is your freedom.

Fixed Absence
You are the kind of person who starts many things, but finishes very few of them. This is due to the fact that you are easily bored with something soon after beginning it. Another reason for this kind of behavior is that you take on so much that your energy is completely depleted. You change jobs frequently, as well as life partners, residences, and even your beliefs.

Mutable Preponderance
The preponderance of this quality suggests adaptability, making you so changeable that it is almost impossible to put you in a certain group or category. You usually set off in several directions at the same time, because you can hardly focus on one thing. Like a chameleon, you adapt to any situation and experience, adjusting your behavior and beliefs as the circumstances require it. Sentimental and personal, you tend to dwell in the past.

Modes Balanced
When the modes are balanced, the situation is ideal: you have the Cardinal influence to take the initiative; the Fixed influence to stick to your plans and goals; and the Mutable one to be open to new things and flexible when necessary.
