The proposal...

Romantic gestures are one of the things most women look forward to in a relationship; knowing that the relationship is moving forward is another.  How wonderful is it when you get both at once and it’s a complete surprise to you.  That’s what happened to Denard and Jennifer, a 20-something year old couple from Dallas, the most romantic gesture you can experience…a proposal…

Their journey started three years ago at a house warming party, the groom-to-be knew the bride-to-be for awhile and always had a crush on her.  For whatever reason he never approached her until a couple of weeks before the party, the relationship started off simple, a couple of phone calls here and there, not much more.  At the party things changed and they have been inseparable from that day forward.

Fast forward a few months later and the happy couple find out that will be parents, not something either of them was ready for, yet they forged on, while getting ready for the newest addition to their family, and their love grew stronger and stronger.  Not to say they haven’t had their challenges because they have but through everything they persevered and made it work.   The day their little beautiful little girl was born you could see the love on both of their faces.  The journey begins…

Three years have passed and they have grown stronger and stronger in their love for one another and their family.  So, to most it was no surprise when Denard put his plan into motion, a surprise proposal to Jennifer.  He started making calls a few days before the proposal; he called her sister and asked her to get her side of the family together.  He contacted his family and told them his plans and swore everyone to secrecy.   The day arrives…

Family and friends are at the table in the back of Pappadeaux* restaurant, patiently awaiting their arrival, and when they finally enter the restaurant the energy can be felt immediately.  As they walk toward the back, Jennifer starts to notice their family and friends and as she turns to ask him why everyone is there, he kneels down on one knee.  Even as all of this is happening, Jennifer still has no idea what is going on, she looks around and starts to scream (she’s a very panicky person), Denard knows this about her and continues to hold her hand.  He finally gets her full attention and slips the ring on her finger and the entire restaurant erupts in applause.

When asked why he decided to propose now and what he loves about Jennifer he had this to say:

“She’s a great mother to our beautiful child and she completes me… I love her dedication and drive to be a better woman, and she brings out the best in me.”

So, without further ado, let’s congratulate Denard Williams and offer best wishes to Jennifer Hickmon on their impending nuptials.  I wish nothing but the best for both of them.  I pray that their relationship continues to grow, their love sustains them and they live the life that they want and so deserve.
