Hurricane Ida has strengthened to a Category 2 storm, and a hurricane watch has been extended into Florida as Ida moves across the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane Ida moved through Cancun on Sunday with heavy winds and rains.
The hurricane watch covers southeastern Louisiana to Mexico Beach, Florida with 100 mph winds, and is expected to get stronger later in the day on Sunday. Ida is expected to reach the Gulf Coast by Monday or Tuesday.
In Utah, there are several agencies that help citizens prepare for disasters by creating mock disasters, in case of an emergency. There are some disasters that are not anticipated, such as the tornado that touched down in Salt Lake City near the capital ten years ago.
