Young gamers ages 6 to 11 will be able to travel on a quest through New Orleans and play exclusive mini-games with the upcoming Nintendo Wii game The Princess and the Frog, based on Disney's next animated movie of the same name.
Following is a sneak peek preview of this video game, which is expected to be available on November 17, 2009, just before the nationwide release on December 11 of The Princess and the Frog movie. This film will be the first Disney movie since Home on the Range to be fully made from traditional 2D hand-drawn animation. A musical comedy, The Princess and the Frog will tell the tale of Tiana, a frog prince, and their adventures in the bayous of Louisiana as they attempt to make their dreams come true.

In the game, the waitress Tiana yearns to run her own restaurant. The central location that leads players to each hub area is this restaurant, which starts out bedraggled and gets nicer and nicer as players gather beads and improve Tiana's situation.
By talking in this restaurant to different non-playable characters that represent different areas (like the French Quarter and the Bayou), players can travel to each location to explore it and fulfill various quest goals.
The game includes eight playable characters, multiple non-playable characters, five New Orleans-themed hub locations to explore, and over 25 replayable Wii-exclusive mini-games for up to four players.

Disney Interactive Studios allowed testers to preview several fun levels of this upcoming family-friendly Wii game.
In one game inspired by "Red Light, Green Light," up to four players use their Wiimotes to make music together as characters such as Charlotte, Tiana, and Prince Naveen. When the evil Dr. Facilier pokes his head out to complain about the noise, players must quickly stop playing or be turned into a frog. The faster they play, the more points they accrue, but speed makes it harder to stop playing in time. The jazzy music suited the New Orleans location perfectly, and our young tester found this game both hilarious and fun.

In another game, players (now frogs in the Bayou), must use their Wiimotes to chop up food, sweep it into a pot, and then stir the pot to make delicious gumbo. Our young tester found the range of motions needed to play this game funny, and our older tester was impressed with the theming and graphics.
In a third game, the frogs ride an alligator down a river while trying to catch bugs with their tongues. Certain objects give players points, but if they eat the wrong objects, their bellies and scores will suffer. The music for this level was great, and again our young tester was amused, this time by the task of trying to zap bugs with frog tongues.
Other parts of the game that were not previewed include the ability to exchange collected Mardi Gras beads for new dresses, fabrics, ingredients, and recipes and to play customization activities involving performing and dancing to music, cooking New Orleans cuisine, and dressing Tiana up in different outfits.
Though unfinished, The Princess and the Frog Nintendo Wii game promises to be thoroughly charming and entertaining once done, with a wide variety of activities for children to enjoy. Lovely (if cliché) New Orleans theming saturates the video game from the jazz and Cajun music on the soundtrack to the swamp locations to the Mardi Gras bead prizes, and it will definitely delight children who become fans of the movie and want to spend more time in Tiana's world.
