The Pre-Take On, 'Home'

Riding high on the successful release of "How To Train Your Dragon 2" Dreamworks Animation is just about to role out its next feature length animation, based on a short novel (The True Meaning of Smekday) by Adam Rex. The movie and the book feature a race of alien creatures called the Boov. "Home" is the story of the Boov's search and invasion of prospective home planets. When the Earth is invaded and the populace captured, a banished Boov and a human girl find themselves working together to stay ahead of the Boov and their leader, Smek. As the two journey the world and evaded the Boov, they find that they have more in common than their common enemy.

While very little can be said about the movie as a whole, the initial teasers and trailers are fun, silly, and just ridiculous enough to make one want to see more. This was especially true after the release of the latest trailer, which presented the movie in a much more favorable way than its early teasers. 'Home' will feature the voices of some of the film and the music industry's most well known faces, such as Rihanna (Gratuity 'Tip' Tucci), Steve Martin (Capt. Smek), Jim Parsons (Oh; the banished Boov), and Jennifer Lopez. This eclectic mix of performers is likely to produce some very interesting interaction, which will hopefully serve to solidify the characters and appeal to kids and general audiences.

Overall, the Dreamworks Animation continues to produce top notch animation, beautiful character designs, and the oddest assortment of plot-lines out there. While not every film has lived up to the impression left by Shrek, the diversity, creativity, and technicality continue to impress. Every film may not have topped the box office or may not have been as marketable as the studio executives may have hoped, but it is good to see that some studios still seek the balance between profit and quality, if you can forgive nostalgic missteps like 'Mr. Peabody.' "Home" is set for release in late 2014 to early 2015.
