The Prairie Invitational concludes day one at Falcon Ridge Golf Course

Formerly known as the Women’s Amateur of Kansas City, the Prairie Invitational began play on Saturday June 21 at the Falcon Ridge Golf Course in Lenexa, Kan. The best female golfer in the Midwest will be determined by the out-come of the 36-hole championship event. The championship will offer two divisions the Open for players of expert level played from 6,100 yards and the Players division will be gross and net for players playing from the forward tees.

In the Open Division Gianna Misenhelter took the round lead at four under par 68, on stroke in front of Catherine Dolan at three under par. Misenhelter made birdie on 1, 5, 6, and 8 on the front nine with a bogey on the ninth to make the turn at three under par. Birdies at 11 and 15, with a bogey on 14 led to her four under par finish. Dolan made birdies on 7, 12, 14, and 17 and bogey on 9 to finish at three under par. Third place resulted in a tie between Whitney Pyle and Alison Kruse at even par 72.

Three players tied for fifth at two over par Baile Winslow, Jordan Rehkow, and Susan Kirschenman. Martha Linscott and Audrey Yowell both shot three over par to tie for eighth and Jennifer Clark and Kallie Gonzales were one stroke back at four over par to round out the top 10 finishers.

In the Players Division, gross scoring Barbara Cusick shot a nine over par 81 to take the lead into the clubhouse at the end of the first round. Cusick made four birdies on the round but bogeyed seven holes and made double bogey on 10, 11, and 15. Second place resulted in a tie at 13 over par for Alane Studley and Megan Propeck.

At the end of round one Pat Seber-Bradley held fourth place with a 14 over par and fifth place went to Teresa Gumm at 15 over par. Sixth place resulted in a tie between Rene Buzicky and Madison Hoy at 16 over par. One shot back at 17 over par is eighth place finisher Jennifer Sumner and in ninth place is Gabby Probert at 18 over par.

Play resumes at Falcon Ridge Golf Course on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. Misenhelter the leader of the Open Division tees off at 7:39 a.m. with Whitney Pyle and Alison Kruse. Barbara Cusick the leader of the Players Division takes the tee at 9:09 a.m. with Pat Seber-Bradley, Gabby Probert, and Rene Buzicky.
