The power of creation... and the life of songwriter Charlie Phillips

1999 was a pivotal year in the life of local singer-songwriter Charlie Phillips. After a 20 year career as an Environmental Consultant, Charlie’s path started to unfold in a way that surprises even him. After a seminar in California, and trip to the famed Esalen Institute, Charlie was seeking greater meaning for his life and began to discover new passions in the form of yoga and massage therapy. Several years after that first enlightenment, Charlie’s vision of a studio for yoga and massage took shape. Around the same time Charlie who had been playing and writing songs for most of his life started to play out performing cover music. five years ago a friend encouraged him to do himself and the world a favor and make a CD of his original songs and Charlie hasn’t stopped since.

This summer saw the release of Charlie’s newest CD called “Just Love” produced by Grammy award winning Producer Phil Nicolo. The quintessential Charlie Phillips however must seen in performance. He loves it, capitol L and it’s evident that every fiber of his being is fully engaged on stage. Charlie is an amazing lead guitarist, and watching him and the band perform is just plain fun.

If you told the Charlie Phillips of 10 years ago that today he’d be a singing, songwriting, yoga teaching, massage therapist - he probably would have said you were crazy. But here he is living the life of his dreams, loving every facet of what he has created.

Charlie and the band can be seen every First Friday at The Burlap & Bean (Newtown Square).
