Sea Dogs are still in the huntOn August 29, 2013, the Dogs defeated the Toronto Blue Jays AA affiliate, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 9 to 3 to take one step closer to post season play. This win means that the Dogs still have a shot at the playoffs as the second place team in the division when the New York Yankees AA affiliate, the Trenton Thunder, comes to Portland. The Dogs may be able to secure a place in post season play by sweeping the Yankees affiliate during this last five game home stand.
It is always a fascinating study in mathematics trying to figure out the playoff standings. Depending on the teams playing, each win or loss could change the standings for the rest of the league. As it stands now, Trenton having been defeated by the Minnesota Twins AA affiliate, the New Britton Rock Cats in extra innings, the Dogs can sweep Trenton and be in the playoffs.
This has been an exciting season. From the beginning, it was obvious that the 2013 Sea Dogs players were fighters coming from behind to win again and again. As they close out this season, they are still showing the fans that they keep fighting, not just for a full nine innings, but for the entire season.
The Friday, August 30, 2013 game will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, August 31 will feature a double header starting at 5 p.m.
