The Portland Museum of Art, located in downtown Portland, Maine is a jewel of a museum. Housed in three architecturally unique buildings, the PMA has a world-class collection of more than 17,000 fine and decorative works of art dating from the 18th century to the present.
Artists such as Frederic Edwin Church, Marsden Hartley, Winslow Homer, Rockwell Kent, Louise Nevelson, John Singer Sargent, Andrew Wyeth and Marguerite Zorach showcase the artistic heritage of Maine and the U.S.
For those who prefer European art, Impressionism through Surrealism is represented by Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas, René Magritte, Claude Monet, Edvard Munch, Pablo Picasso, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir among others.

Select from a large collection of Maine artist and artisan-created jewelry, cards, home goods, gifts, art books, children’s books and toys. The shop is open during museum hours and no admission is required to browse.
Be sure to allow time for a visit to the PMA Café by Aurora Provisions. Located on the lower level of the museum, well away from the crowds, this calm respite offers locally roasted coffee, fresh baked pastries and a light lunch menu.
From seasonally inspired soups and salads, to innovative gourmet sandwiches and creative entrees, there is always a delightful selection of tempting items. The homemade fare changes on a daily basis and features local purveyors and artisan producers. The café provides free wireless internet service to patrons and is open to the public.
