The popularity of the Brazilian bikini wax has swept across the country, for both men and women. The service generally removes all the hair in the pubic area as well as the buttocks. The following rules allow for a superior Brazilian wax.
Rule one: The majority of people wanting a Brazilian wax shave: sometimes daily. Keep in mind that an esthetician cannot wax what is not there. The optimum hair length is about one-quarter inch hair or a two-week growth.
Rule two: Exfoliate the area prior to appointment. The wax, when spread, will stick to the base of the hair shaft and to the surrounding skin from where it grows within the follicle. Using a loofah, essentially a rough sponge, will remove dead skin. Thoroughly soak the loofah and gently massage the pre-waxed area. Soap is not necessary.
Rule three: Be patient. The average Brazilian bikini wax takes three to five treatments for optimal results. Hair grows in layers and the hair pulled today will not necessarily be the hair pulled at the next visit.
Rule four: Plan your next appointment within three to four weeks. When hair is pulled from the follicle, the bulb or papilla is removed. This is the reason the average Brazilian wax lasts two full weeks without regrowth. The average client will start to see regrowth at week three.
Rule five: Never shave again. Shaving encourages ingrown hairs. Razor blades often have three or four sharply angled blades, which cuts hair under the skin. Pressing deeply for a close shave sometimes encourages the sharp angle of the hair to grow into the skin, creating an inflammatory infection. Add to this equation that razors are often left in the shower, where humid conditions allow bacteria growth. The result is a pustule: a pimple, which often times itches. Scratching with bacteria-laced fingernails is often unconscious. Popping the whitehead should be performed with cotton swabs or a sterile lancet. If the hair does not immediately pop out, contact the esthetician who performed the service for extraction. This will avoid scarring or spreading of the infection.
Rule six: When drying off after the shower, use your own towel. Bacteria can spread from another person’s towel.
Rule seven: Waxing does not require an advanced degree: only experience. Always book the Brazilian wax with an experienced esthetician who has solid experience with the service.
