A special Pokemon giveaway was announced during the latest episode of Nintendo Direct. This Pokemon giveaway will give players a Celebi, and it was announced on December 18, 2013. In order for players to participate in this giveaway, they must access the “Pokemon Bank” application on their Nintendo 3DS before September 30, 2014.

The “Pokemon Bank” application is slated to release on December 27, 2013. The application will have a $4.99 per year subscription fee, but it will also come with a one month free trial as long as the player accesses it for the first time before January 31, 2014. It has been confirmed that the Celebi can be received during the free trial, so players will not need to purchase a subscription to receive it.

Celebi was first introduced in “Pokemon Gold and Silver.” It was the “hidden” Pokemon of the second generation, similar to Mew from the first generation. At the time, the only ways to receive it were to go to a special event or use a cheating device like a GameShark. It is a Grass/Psychic-type Pokemon whose stats all have a base value of 100. This means that it can specialize in whatever role the player chooses, though Celebi tends to fill either a Special Attacker or Support role due to its relatively small move pool.
