The PlayStation 4 reveal recap and photo breakdown (Photos)

The PlayStation 4 is here! After countless months of speculation, rumors, leaks and assumptions, Sony has finally given us a glimpse of the future with their PlayStation 4 reveal conference in New York City.

Cutting to the chase, I figure I would just highlight the event into items of interest... thats all we really care about anyway, right? The even summary is as follows:

  • Opening squence displaying the years of the Playstation - "We didn't build a box" is most noted
  • "The gamer is the focal point of our efforts," in opening speech, describing the focus of the evolution of the demands of the casual and core gamer.
  • Talk about the Playstation Vita, but it's short changed. "We will talk more about the Vita next year."
  • Talk about mobile gaming via mobile devices. "As we were changing the gamer, the gamer ended up changing us."
  • Many screenshots of several games cycle through the promotional background.
  • The Playstation 4 is announced among a back log of Playstation history
  • Explanations regarding design elements and thought process when designing the Playstation 4. "By game creators, for game creators."
  • Architecture is like a PC - but supercharged. 8 Gigs of ram, X86 CPU.
  • Dual shock 4 is announced - much tighter sense of control. Touch pad, light bar, share button and new trigger buttons.
  • Announced in tandem with a stereo camera.
  • Unreal 4 is shown in real time on prototype hardware.
  • 8 core CPU with almost 2 Teraflops of computing power - 8 Gigs of GDDR5 ram,.
  • Knack, the first game ever, is demo'd
  • Explanation of consumer oriented platform.
  • Playstation 4 put together a feature set to reduce the time from start to finish for gamers.
  • "Hit power button and you will jump instantly into the game"
  • Separate chip for downloading and uploading. You can play a game while you download it
  • New interface is shown, demonstrating the uploading feature.
  • Playstation 4 is designed to be a highly integrated platform.
  • Applications available on smart phones, tablets, Vita.
  • Consumer focus and developer centric approach.
  • Dave Perry comes on next - CEO of Gaikai cloud gaming.
  • Playstation 4 and Playstation Network will be connected with Gaikai
  • "We are creating the fastest, most powerful gaming network in the world."
  • You can stream all games from the Playstation 4 as a trial, for free.
  • Facebook and Ustream adaption announced
  • Network is dedicated to games
  • Spectating has become "big" in our industry
  • You can broadcast live games
  • Friends can post comments, trash talk, or play separate games
  • Accounts set up to broadcast to whoever you like
  • PSVita connectivity announced, remote play possible
  • PS3 games are not playable on the device, but can be played through Gaikai, as well as PS1 and PS2
  • Another video pushing simplicity and connectivity. Basically going over everything that was already said, just in an artistic way. The word "Elegant" was thrown around.
  • Next up was talk about a new "Canvas" for creativity
  • Another game is shown: Kill Zone: Shadow Fall.
  • Game looks good... really good.
  • First person cover based shooter? Not "creative" if I say so myself.
  • Next up was Drive Club, a team based racer.
  • Real time team play, challenges and play.
  • Next up Nate Fox introduced Sucker Punches latest PlayStation 4 Exclusive: Infamous - Second Son.
  • Johnathan Blow was up next to introduce another exclusive Playstation 4 launch title: The Witness
  • A small mapped, open world game - very interesting.
  • David Cage was up next from Quantum Dream, surprise surprise, he talks about emotion.
  • Shows off new engine running in real time on the PS4 hardware.
  • Media Molecule shows off the move controller in use, "recreating dreams," creating sculptures.
  • Rock music type demo shown... Sony refuses to let Move go.
  • Capcom is up next, giving us yet another history lesson of the Playstation and it's technology.
  • Panta Rhei game engine shown off. Game is called "Deep Down" and looks intense.
  • Square Enix is up next to show off their support for the PlayStation 4: Lumios.
  • Square Enix surprisingly rehashed the same demo from E3, surprised Sony let them get away with it.
  • Ubisoft came on next to show off their next title: Watch Dogs
  • Unlike Square, Ubisoft showed off an all new live demo, it looks incredible!
  • Blizzard made a surprise debut at the event!
  • Showed Diablo 3 for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
  • Last but not least, Activision took the stage.
  • Plans on supporting the PS4 with multiple block busters during the launch window.
  • Showed off "Destiny," Microsoft may now crap their pants.
  • Talked about exclusive playable content for the Playstation community.
