When you are focused on building the best organization whether it be small or large, a sense of humor is sometimes overlooked when interviewing for the right candidate to add to your team.
And even the interviewee is told hold back and be professional when it comes to the latest joke. It doesn't have to be a joke that may offend because of possible cultural differences but when interviewing it is important for both to laugh at something. As a possible new hire, by demonstrating humor, you determine how well you will fit into the office environment and even how you may handle criticism.
Sometimes behavioral questions can open the door to finding out if this person is going to be any fun. Not questions that ask how they handle stress but how they have used humor to alleviate a problem. If nothing else, they don't smile initially when you meet, walk them out the door as fast as they came in.
A smile can be a sign of deception but most of us instinctively know when a smile admits sincerity.
Strong teams, over time, generally bond in creativity because they have fun, they have the same intellectual capacity for sarcasm while being able to laugh at themselves.
