About 35 miles outside of the city is a quaint town called Weston, MO. If you are looking for something fun to do, then take the scenic drive to town and spend some time at the 25th annual Weston Applefest! It's held in downtown historic Weston, and it's known to be one of the best in the Midwest! They have lots of different things you can do and see. There will be demonstrations on how things used to be done, like how to make soap and candles, wood carving, leather tanning and basket weaving.
There will also be the Garden Harvest Market vendors, where you can partake in delicious fall food, or shop for fall inspired decorations for your home! In addition to the arts and crafts on the street, you can visit the quaint shops in town. When you get hungry, stop by the local churches and you can find Weston's famous apple dumplings, apple pies and cookies too. At the Applefest food court you can get a bite to eat, or you can also choose one of the restaurants in town and enjoy a tasty meal.
Go ahead and bring the kids! Not only will they enjoy the apple inspired foods, but there will be activities for them to do too! They can get their face painted, carnival-style games, pony rides, and they can even paint a pumpkin to put on the front porch! Bring them early and they can watch the parade through downtown!
Free parking in available on the northern and western parts of town and from the different lots there will be shuttle buses. Keep in mind that the shuttle won't run during the parade so plan on getting there early in the morning if you're wanting to see that. Weston is also very hilly and the narrow sidewalks aren't the best if you're disabled, so plan on extra time to maneuver the 6 blocks to and from parking if you plan on walking.
