"The Perfect Mother" is a true-story movie based on the murder of Alexandra Ignatovic at the hands of her mother-in-law Jelka Pesic. The drama premiered on CBS in 1997 starring Tyne Daly. The real names were changed to Elanie Podaras and Kathryn Podaras.
Based on a true-life situation, as described in the Buffalo News, the movie follows the case of Elani Podaras, a woman who is hell bent on controlling her sons and their marriages at all costs. When her son's new wife, Kathryn, can't be controlled, Elani takes matters into her own hands and tries to have her daughter-in-law murdered.
The real case made headlines in 1992, when Jelka Pesic solicited the murder of her son's wife Alexandra Ignatovic. People who knew the real Alexandra say she would never have allowed her husband's mother to control her. This is what police say led to her death. According to court records, after months of stalking and harassing her daughter-in-law, Pesic arranged for the young mother to be murdered as she sat in a car. Ignatovic received two gunshot wounds to the head. A woman who had been riding in the passenger seat was unharmed.
Jelka Pesic was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Her co-conspirators: Milan Nenadic, Lawrence Delorme and David Segoviano were also convicted for her murder. The case happened in Canada, according to The Vancouver Sun.
"The Perfect Mother aka "Perfect Mother" occasionally airs on the cable network.
