Your makeup foundation is just that, the base on which you build the rest of your face. Without the right foundation you compromise the entire look. I’m always on a quest for the perfect foundation. My complexion is a warm caramel with yellow undertones, and either combination or oily depending on the season. Even in the most popular MAC foundations I have to blend two shades together to get a good match. Sometimes I can get away with a sheer coat of Studio Fix liquid in NC45 and C7 powder. I do have occasional breakouts that can leave scarring, so the problem is finding the right blend of color and coverage without being too heavy or greasy.
I have tried them all to see what my skin liked best: liquids, powders, creams, cream to powder, and tinted moisturizers. I've used major brands including Lancome, Clinique, Make Up For Ever, Estee Lauder and Fashion Fair when I worked as a beauty advisor. There were a few times when I found some “keepers” that I would incorporate into my daily beauty routine, but I was never too much of a snob for one brand.
There are also many drugstore brands that have become favorites because of their similarities to the more expensive lines, and I am all about saving money when I can! Some of the best I have tried were Cover Girl Queen Collection, Iman, Revlon ColorStay and Maybelline Fit Me foundations.
As a regular feature in upcoming articles I will share my opinion on some products that I have found work great for my needs. Do the products work as advertised? Is this worth the extra money, or should I save it for something else? And most important to women of color like myself, does it come in a wide range of hues to help me find the perfect match to my skin tone. There is nothing worse than finding a great product that only comes in three shades! I will help beauty junkies like myself narrow down the best choices, and I'll tell you where to find these products locally to save you time and money!
