Just in case you missed it, an extraordinary turn of events took place last week. It became official on June 9, 2014, Costello Tagliapietra started making menswear after alluding to the possibility of it for the past few years. Instead of diving in headfirst and blasting us all with an overwhelming collection of THINGS, C&T are gently wading in, testing the waters, if you will, with one special piece: The #PerfectCardigan.
If you are at all familiar with everybody’s favorite American fashion bears, Jeffrey and Robert, you’d know that over the years they have cemented their signature look of plaid shirts, jeans, chinos, classic boat shoes, suspenders, and those absolutely fabulous cardigans. It only makes sense that one of these signature items would launch their line of menswear and they chose the #PerfectCardigan. The Perfect Cardigan is quite unlike any cardigan I have ever seen or owned. Instead of your run of the mill (pun not intended) knit jersey using large gauge yarn and a loose knit, the ponte (pon-tee) of the Perfect Cardigan is a tight double-knit interlock fabric composed of fine yarn that is completely opaque, and has a bit of stretch built into it. The Perfect Cardigan ponte is comprised of 62% rayon, 30% nylon, and 8% elastic and it has a dense, luxurious feel to it, that drapes softly with a subtle luster. It is at once luxury personified and yet quite casual.
In keeping with the balancing act between lux and casual, the Perfect Cardigan is beautifully appointed. An Ultrasuede (100% polyester) elbow patch with the CT Anchor emblem Airdyed on it is stitched to each sleeve giving the sweater a decidedly Ivy League look. To further set it apart, the Perfect Cardigan features three patch pockets and a four-snap concealed placket all of which is trimmed out with rayon grosgrain ribbon. Nice.
The #PerfectCardigan comes in two sizes: Size 1 (small-medium chest measurement 45”) and Size 2 (large-xlarge chest measurement 50.5”), and three colors: Midnight, Lavender, and Garnet, and will set you back $245. For now, at least, the Perfect Cardigan is available in limited numbers, so if you want one, you might want to act sooner rather than later.
