It all starts with your manager. This is the person who evaluates your performance and determines your salary. Your manager also ensures that you have everything you need to succeed in your job. Without support from your manager, you will not go very far in your career.
You will always find another programmer who knows more than you do. But there is usually one programmer known as the guru. Seek out this person and try to absorb as much knowledge as you can. If you are lucky, this person will become your mentor and you will learn so much.
Find a programmer who you can partner up with. This makes it easier to research technologies and solve problems. It also helps to have a second pair of eyes when debugging code.
Human resources contact
You will often have questions about employee benefits, company policies and payroll. Your human resources representative can answer these questions. Be courteous and friendly to your human resources contact, and you will get answers in a timely manner.
The tech support person is in charge of your software and hardware. This person resolves computer problems, upgrades hardware and installs software. A good relationship with the tech support person could result in perks like a new smartphone.
These are the people you should know at your first programming job. They can make your life easier and assist your career in so many ways.
