Without a doubt Jerry Jones is one of the most controversial owners in the NFL, if not in the sporting world all together. Jerry does things his own way; he is considered a maverick owner, having successfully challenged the NFL on may issues including signing a deal with Pepsi to be his soft drink provider. At the time the NFL had a deal with Coke, but Jones changed much of that.
A lot of football people do not like Jones because he acts as the General Manger of his own team, has been known to make questionable decisions on coaches and personnel, and built a billion dollar jewel known as New Dallas Cowboys stadium.
For those of you who think Jones doesn’t know football you couldn’t be more wrong. He was an offensive lineman at the University of Arkansas. He won a National Championship in 1964. Also on that team were Jimmy Johnson, and Jim Lindsey. While at the University Jones was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. This makes Jones one of a few NFL owners who actually has some success as a football player.
After leaving school Jones went through a few failed business ventures, and passed up a chance to buy the San Diego Chargers, then of the AFL. In 1967 he started a oil and gas exploration business in Arkansas that become highly successful.
In 1989 he bought the Dallas Cowboys from H.R. Bright. After firing long time coach Tom Landry, and forcing out long time GM Tex Schramm, Jones cemented himself in as GM, and hired former teammate Johnson to be his head coach.
Many NFL fans do not like Jones, as he insist on being the face of the franchise. While most NFL owners enjoy the games from the comfort of the owner’s suite, however Jones is often to be found on the sidelines with his team. Since buying the team he has won Three Super Bowl Championships, so his not entirely bad,
