One of the funniest gags in the hit TV show “Get Smart” was the shoe telephone used by the bumbling Maxwell Smart, aka Agent 86 - the antithesis of James Bond.
Agent 86 would have benefited from the Pebble, a smart watch that alerts you to emails, text messages, and phone calls with minimal abruption.
The hilarious spy was constantly getting phone calls at the most inconvenient times, but with the new $150 digital wristwatch called Pebble, Agent 86 would no longer have to fumble around searching inside his neckties, combs, eyeglasses,or ice cream cones to find one of his many telecommunication devices or to answer the unforgettable shoe phone; he could simply glance at his wristwatch to determine the importance of the call.
According to the Feb 27, Wall Street Journal, the Pebble “connects to an iPhone or Android phone wirelessly and displays notifications and previews of calls, texts and emails.”
The Pebble was designed by a Palo Alto firm which generated quite a buzz with its Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the product development and launch.
The WSJ notes an important fact about the Pebble - “It isn't a wrist communicator. It cannot conduct phone calls or compose texts and emails. It just notifies you about them, by gently vibrating and displaying sender or caller info, and for messages, an excerpt, on the screen.”
Summed up, “The Pebble is a useful accessory for a smartphone if you have a spare $150 and hate digging out your phone, or can't easily do so, to see if you need to attend to a call or message,” the WSJ reported.
Maxwell Smart certainly could have benefited from the Pebble… but then without the shoe phone, the hilarity goes out the window!
