Sure Super Bowl XLVI will be an East Coast battle. But no matter where you’re from you have to feel welcome in Indianapolis, a town that names its streets after other states. Many of those state named streets are downtown where events leading up to the Super Bowl are already taking place.
Beginning Jan. 27, 2012, Emmy and Grammy celebs are entertaining from two stages set up in the town’s Super Bowl Village on Georgia Street. An art fair has taken over the old Indianapolis City Hall at Ohio and Alabama Street. Football memorabilia and activities are at the NFL Experience in the Indiana Convention Center south of Maryland Street at the end of Georgia Street.
Entertainment
Bands are filling Super Bowl Village with free music to move to from the Pepsi and Verizon Stages now through Feb. 4. Concerts typically go from around noon through about 11 p.m. But if in town this weekend, try to catch Grammy Award singer Patti LaBelle on the Pepsi Stage at 9:15 p.m. Jan. 28. Experiential art and design
The Indianapolis Downtown Artists and Dealers Association is hosting “Turf,” a free juried show featuring art installations in the IDADA Art Pavilion inside the century old, former city hall building. The show is a sampling of art to be found in area galleries. Visitors are invited to take a “First Friday” gallery tour on Feb. 3.
“Indianapolis has a wide variety of high-caliber artists and galleries, and this is our chance to let the world know it,” says gallery owner Mark Ruschman.

In the Indiana Convention Center, visitors can see a replica of an NFL locker room and the 45 (so far) Super Bowl rings, participate in interactive games, chat with NFL officials and obtain autographs. For autograph times, football clinic and NFL officials Academy information visit NFL Experience.
Indianapolis is less than three hours south of Chicago on Interstate 65.
