Why, oh why? This comment seems to be splitting hairs:
“We strongly believe that allowing the retail sale of medical marijuana would not be in the best interest of Parker residents,” said Mayor David Casiano. “However, we are not denying anyone necessary medical care."

No, but you're not making it convenient or accessible to Parker residents who need it.

I'm with D.K. on this one.

I don't know what the population of Parker is, but we are going through something similar in my small town. We have rampant illegal marijuana cultivation here and crimes related to such. While I don't agree with the medical marijuana scenario, I understand it is legal. However, I believe that like any medicine it should be required to be distributed only by doctors offices and pharmacies. I don't see the need for a special dispensary for the substance.

You can't grow it... you can't sell it.. and you can't buy it... so how is a patient suppose to get it?

  • mtn-high 1 year ago

Parker cannot take away basic patient rights...the right to grow, use, and yes...sell marijuana between patients that is given under Amendment 20.

Parker will join the list of towns who get sued and your tax dollars will pay to LOSE such suits. Idiots.

@ Cindy What 'illegal' grows? Certainly don't hear about them if they are so rampant in your town.

And the docs and pharmacies can't carry or prescribe it due to its Scheduling with the Federal Government. Want to do something about it, Write your Congressman to reschedule it.

And if you don't like it, don't use it. Me? I hate Aleve and stick to Advil, but to each their own.

SOOO rather then letting in a retail store that will employ people, pay taxes and help older sick people, you want to keep it in the streets. So now the elderly sick ladies in wheelchairs can roll on down the dark alley and score a sack. Just to get relief from a severe illness.
    NICE!!!!!

Google Humboldt County marijuana and see what you come up with. This is where I live. My neighbors grow it, and there is a whole town that is practically commited to it. Ever heard of Garberville, Ca? How about Arcata, CA? "Intervention" did a whole hour on grow houses in Arcata. I'm sorry that I didn't mention I live in California before...

    Thanks for the update.

What Parker is doing, and the rest of these towns, is unconstitutional. It will only be a matter of time before it gets overturned. Unfortunately, there will be millions wasted in legal fees.

Dear PP... If you knew anything about Parker you'd know we don't really have any dark alleys.... The only people I've seen complain about the marijuana laws are the 20 something's who'd like to get a fake prescription for it and stop in a store the type of which were shown on "WEEDS". NOT any wheelchair bound seniors. Personally I think it should just be legalized ... I see it as no more damaging as alcohol but that's a whole other story. The problem with the dispensaries are the no one wants them in their back yard! So what's a town council to do? Since we elected them, they are supposed to listen to the voters.. and voters do NOT want that influence here.

@Cindy Yes, CA is different than CO.
I've been to the Emerald Triangle on numerous occasions. Lovely area, great people. Again, my statements still stand. Write your congress person to have it rescheduled from Schedule I (no medical use) to Schedule II, then you can have your docs and pharmacies to dispense. Still not going to stop the production of it.
I am not sure how your neighbors growing it in their yard or basement is of concern to you though?
