The Pantages Theater--Los Angeles's Broadway Scene

See also

The Pantages Theater is a Hollywood must-see. Since 1949, this local treasure has been putting on plays and productions that have captured the hearts of Angelenos and tourists alike.
Located on Hollywood Boulevard just minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Pantages is a great location to spend an evening at after a long day in Hollywood.
Nearby is TCL Chinese Theater, formerly known as Grauman’s Chinese Theater, and although this is a similar locale, the two theaters are vastly different. The Chinese Theater plays popular movies—most often the newly released hits, while the Pantages produces plays akin to those on Broadway. Going to the Pantages is a perfect way to get the Broadway feel without having to travel across the country to the Big Apple.
The theater has staged some of the most famous and long running plays in the past few decades such as “West Side Story,” “Cats,” “The Lion King,” and “Les Miserables.” Some of the big names in show business have performed here. In fact, the theater was home to the Academy Awards throughout the ‘50s.
The tradition of the Broadway Season shows was as a direct result of the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera from the 1930s. This organization was largely influential in bringing the musical theater culture of Broadway to Southern California and helped to transition some of the focus away from the movie industry. The two most famous shows to date are “The Producers—The New Mel Brooks Musical,” and “Wicked,” both of which were wildly popular and successful at this venue.
The Pantages is a worthwhile site to see when visiting Los Angeles. However, tickets are often limited due to the location’s popularity. Season ticket packages are the most popular and keep the theater running, but there are always single night tickets available as long as they are booked in advance. The theater offers many accommodations to assist with parking and to ensure that all guests have a quality experience. Book a visit today to complete an unforgettable trip to Los Angeles!
