I can hardly wait. It's almost time. I have a stack of books ready. Hollywood and the entertainment industry, an industry that does nothing to bolster and heighten the real world except promote itself, is going to celebrate people who have done the best to convince people they have a talent. I'm not sure what talent they supposedly have since I hardly am one who thinks being told how to read a line, how to stand, how to move and how to react are hardly filled with a plethora of talent.
Perhaps it is only me who understands this. Acting is not a talent. At least at the level of movies it isn't. It is even more scripted than music if you can believe that. I mean in music, every recording is laced with overdubs and edits as well as electronic devices to make people sound as if they can sing and play in tune.Movies are no different. A director will shoot and reshoot the same scene over and over trying to get the perfect look, reaction, or whatever from those who are working so hard as actors and actresses. Any idiot can be an actor. I'm not kidding. Any idiot, given an unlimited number of opportunities can do anything perfectly one time in a million.
Let's look at the entertainment industry by contrast to any other within this world.
As I said, in movies or music you can redo the same thing over and over and over until you get it right.
If you are in business, you get one shot to do it right or you go to jail for any of a number of violations.
In music or movies, you create an illusion.
In business, you live in reality.
In music or movies you can say, do, or be whatever you want and no one can say a word.
In business, you have to have some semblance of professionalism and have a code of ethics. Many licenses granted to do business are revoked when someone is caught violating any law regardless of whether or not it is even remotely related to their work.
So tell me, on Sunday when you watch the Academy Awards, ask yourself, who are you celebrating? Do those people care about your reality? Do the winners or losers in the best song or music categories ever think of you even though your job probably is more important to the function of the world than any of theirs?
You see, the point here is simple, entertainment and celebrity is not a talent that should be awarded. It is simply knowing the right people. It doesn't take an education to be a singer or a musician. Actually, in those fields more than any other in entertainment, it does take a little bit of practice. You have to know how to play a piano or guitar. But to simply read a line in a script and walk where you're told to walk... Is this something to celebrate?
Again, the next time you find yourself tight at the end of the month when the bills come due, ask yourself does your favorite musician or actor or what have you, ever think of you or does he even care? Of course not. So long as you pay to hear his music or see his movie, he is happy. But don't ever expect him to return the favor and help you when you need it most. It just won't happen. This is reality. Welcome to the real world. Enjoy watching people celebrate themselves Sunday.
