If you watched the Oscars this year, then you saw a lot of vibrant and rich color along with the regular sea of black. Red, being one of the main colors of this season, was all aglow and in such bright and vibrant hues. Also, soft pastels created a beautiful, floral like sea of dresses and everywhere you turned, the glimmer and glitz was bling blinging away amongst the flashbulbs from the cameras.
It wasn’t easy to choose amongst the top fashion picks on the red carpet, but I’ve narrowed it down to five and we’ll work our way from the bottom to the top fashionista that blew my fashion mind and made me say ooh la la!
5- Kelly Rowland- OK, so she wasn’t a nominee, but she was killing the carpet in that beautiful black and white Donna Karan. The sexy leg slit wasn’t overly dramatic or vulgar, but added just the right touch of sexy flair. The cut of the gown was simply stunning and the lines of the gown were just right. She had the perfect hair (bangs, soft upswept bun) and kept her make-up and jewelry to a minimum so as not to overwhelm the dress. Well done Kelly!
4- Nicole Kidman always exudes class and sexiness. She didn’t fail to please this time either, in her black and gold, liquid sequined dress by L'Wren Scott. The motifs on the skirt were such a nice touch. Artistic without being overwhelming. Bravo!
3- Who says that redheads can’t wear pink? Jennifer Chastane defied those fashion rules in a very pale, almost golden shade of pink in an Armani mesh sequined number. A mermaid style gown, the fit and cut were just right and she kept the rest of her look simple and understated. Old Hollywood glam meets 2013. I completely loved it.
2- Jennifer Lawrence may have taken a spill as she went to collect her Academy Award, but her strapless light-pink Dior gown was all I saw! Flowing, beautiful and complete with a beaded necklace that went down her back, this was a definite winner in my book.
1- Naomi Watts gets my #1 spot this year. Wearing an absolutely stunning and futuristic silver gown from Armani Privé, the cut and length was completely flawless. This gunmetal sequined look was definitely something we saw on quite a few of the celebrities on the carpet, but I fell in love the edginess of the sleeves and the look overall. Since this gown was so uniquely different from all of the others on the carpet, I had to give it my #1 spot. Great choice Naomi!
My worst picks were carefully thought out as well and not easy to choose. Unfortunately, there were quite a few walking the red carpet this year that were committing fashion suicide, but I’ve narrowed it down accordingly, so here they are!
5- Kristin Chenoweth in Tony Ward was definitely a bit much. While this dress has the potential to be a beautiful gown, there is really just too much going on in the bodice area and the full glittery skirt looks more Barbie-ish than Oscar Red Carpet. And is It me, or are her protruding bony hips just barely holding this dress together? Definitely a do not on my list.
4- Anne Hathaway may have walked away a winner for her role in Les Mise’rables, but not in my fashion book. Her Prada gown was pretty, yes, but too simple and did nothing for her, especially with her new short hair. She needed something edgy and fun and this dress completely washed her out. Definitely not a fan of this look.
3- Charlize Theron is on my worst dressed this year. I know, I know, I’m gasping at myself! The problem here isn’t the dress, it’s the complete look which Is totally off. While Charlize is completely beautiful and able to pull off this closely cropped hair, the dress is definitely the opposite of that hair and unfortunately, they don’t play well together. She ought to have had on something short and playful, more sexy and less Hollywood glam would have done it, but she’s made my no-no list for picking the wrong white Dior gown. Ah, such a waste on both ends.
2- She could have been #1 had there not been another offender that shook me up just a bit more. While Kristen Stewart has obviously changed (or invested in) a stylist as of late, (which is a compliment), this whole look was an oxymoron. Looking like she had rolled out of bed and slipped on her Reem Acra gown, I’d have to chalk this fashion faux pas up to her foot trauma, had I not known that she has an entire staff available to make her look her best. Please get it together Kristen!
1-Melissa McCarthy looked completely washed out and lost in her slate gray David Meister dress and thus takes home my #1 on the what NOT to wear list. What a shame, because the dress allows her weight to overwhelm her and actually stand out, rather than flattering her figure, which is what a perfect Oscar gown ought to do. For such a vibrant and hilarious comedienne, there was nothing funny about this fashion don’t!
So what do you guys think? Who were your favorites? Whose looks couldn’t you stand? Feel free to share!
