In warm weather the spacious deck with views of Town Cove in Orleans beckons. As the weather gets cooler the dining room, with its waterfront views, is the place to be.
The Orleans Waterfront Inn serves food all winter
Finding places that serve good food on Cape Cod at odd hours is not easy in the off-season. So it was delightful to discover the doors were open and food was being served one chilly afternoon in early spring.
Warming up on their clam chowder, which lives up to tough Cape Cod standards, we also sampled the duck salad, which proved to be a lovely blending of subtle flavors. The salad went well with a selection from the modest wine list.
The only problem with filling up on fish and chips was that there was no room left to sample anything on the desert menu. But that’s a good reason to go back and enjoy a Cape Cod summer meal out on the deck.
In winter the Orleans Waterfront Inn is open from 11am to 9pm Friday through Sunday for lunch and dinner. There is often live entertainment in O’Hagan’s Irish Pub. This recently restored Victorian inn is a great place to stop on the way back from Provincetown's beaches and museums.
Lodging and special celebrations at the Orleans Waterfront Inn
The Orleans Inn provides, as its title suggests, lodging as well as food. Room rates run from $250 for a standard room to $450 for the Presidential Waterfront Suite. There are some package deals and the Cove Function Room is available for special celebrations.
Directions: Once on Cape Cod, take Route 6 to the Orleans Rotary. Take the first right onto Route 6A. The Orleans Inn is on the left at the first stoplight.
