Back in 1990, founder of Wendy's restaurants and an adoptee, Dave Thomas was asked by President Bush to be the spokesperson for a national adoption awareness initiative. Inspired by this, Dave established The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption in 1992.
The mission for The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is to "dramatically increase the number of adoptions of waiting children from North America's foster care systems."
Throughout the years Dave made an incredible difference for adoption across the country. Sadly, Dave passed away in 2002, but his legacy lives on through his foundation. Yesterday his daughter Wendy Thomas, and namesake of the restaurants, was added to the board of directors to serve a three-year term. Wendy will carry on her father's vision giving "Every child a permanent home and a loving family."
