What is The Original GothCruise? The Original GothCruise was born out of a drunken night at Convergence 9 in Las Vegas. The idea was simple: get a group of friends, invite their friends, invite like-minded people we haven't met yet, put them all on a boat, add rum, hilarity ensues.
On Friday, August 23, 2013, GothCruise embarks on their 10th voyage: GothCruise on Ice! Royal Caribbean's ship, the Rhapsody of the Seas, will take the subculture revelers on a 7 night journey beginning in Seattle, Washington, making stops in Juneau and Skagway, Alaska, passing through the breathtaking Tracy Arm Fjord, and making a final stop in Victoria, British Columbia.
Travelling through Alaska’s Inside Passage on the 7-night voyage to Sawyer Glacier, GothCruisers will view spectacular scenery and amazing wildlife both on land and in the sea. They will tour the tundra and explore the grandeur of the glaciers. On top of that, they will have theme dances (the proper "ice themed" GothCapades, featuring DJs TheOneBob and Rob Terlizzi, and Fortress of Solitude, featuring DJs Lady Zombie and Das Kreestof), game nights, a brand new edition of the GothCruise Photo Scavenger Hunt and other exclusive surprises.
Bob Westphal, TheOneBob, sets the course of all that is GothCruise. He works hard to make sure that this is your best vacation ever. Bob has been at the helm since GothCruise 6, and he has been an integral part of GC since the very first voyage. He's been on several Convergence committees, heading up what some call the very best Convergence ever; Convergence 14-Ybor City. Bob is the host of the long-time dark music radio show called The Shape of Things to Come.
Andrew Lent, Andrew23, is the often voice of reason and sometimes the voice of snarky comebacks. He keeps the website up to date with the latest GothCruise information. In his spare time, Andrew leads the rag-tag band of electronic popsters known as Missile Command, and does an internet radio show called Android Lounge. Andrew has been an important cog in the wheel of the GothCruise Brain Trust since GC6.
Lori Lent, The Ice Queen, coordinates the entertainment and the group events. She makes sure that the DJs are lined up and ready to make you dance. On top of that she also does write-ups on our ports-of-call and puts together the Pre-Cruise Dinner. When she's not doing that, Lori sings and plays synths in Missile Command, and is a student. Lori has been with the GothCruise Brain Trust since GC6.
They may not have corporate sponsors, but the word certainly gets out. Jeanie Finlay of Tiger Lily Films shot the landmark documentary about GothCruise that takes a candid and ultimately redefining look at what it really means to be Goth, featured on IFC. If you have seen "Goth Cruise: The Movie", this is the same group!
