A groundbreaking show, OPT - Exhibition ! features important new work by Todd Andrew Babb, Greg Biolchini, Veron Ennis, Hollis Jeffcoat, and Arturo Samaniego, five socially-responsible artists who are spearheading the OPT Art movement in Southwest Florida.
Todd Andrew Babb is a sculptor of the human form. His sculptures defy gravity as they gracefully reach into space with exaggerated positions and features communicating what is miraculous about the human race. Babb’s work has been exhibited at the Naples Museum of Art as well as in galleries, fine art fairs and festivals around the world. Greg Biolchini is a realist painter of the Florida sky-scape. His work goes beyond photorealism and embodies the emotional effect of the powerful landscape through his signature painterly technique. For a year, he has devoted himself to photographing the morning and evening skies off Sanibel. "I've painted over 20 of these [sky scapes] and have witnessed hundreds of sunrises and sunsets," says Greg. "I'm experiencing something quite powerful and maybe even spiritual that I never expected." Veron Ennis is an abstract painter concerned with the layering of paint applied with a balance of chance and precision. Known for her Cube Constructs (sculptures made from paintings) and her vivid use of color, Ennis’ work conveys a felling of joy in a non-objective manner. Hollis Jeffcoat is a master expressionist painter of nature and life. Her controlled and repetitive gestural strokes are a spiritual language for our connection to life on land and sea. "In nature is where one finds positivity and the light at the end of the tunnel," Jeffcoat told Veron Ennis for her article in the December edition of Gulfshore Life. "I allow creatures in nature to come to me and tell me what they look like. They are their own characters and have their own life force." Arturo Samaniego’s newest series, “Emergence,” embodies a sense of inner-reflection and self-exploration that is an ennobling of the human soul. Surrounded by pulsing waves and an undefined horizon, each figure is in the midst of spiritual discovery. "Samaniego implies a sense of baptism or cleansing," writes Ennis in her Gulfshore Life piece.
