There is a new scare in Soulard, and it’s happening at the Art Market. With Halloween just a week away, there are several ways to get into the spirit: you can carve Jack-o-lanterns, watch scary movies, decorate the house; but for those who like to soak in some fine art, the Soulard Contemporary Gallery has you covered. On October 11th, 2013 they unveiled their Fear II juried exhibit featuring fear inspired artwork from local artists. From gloomy charcoal and pen & ink drawings to oil paintings and creepy photography, every piece evokes some kind of emotion whether you’re glued to the floor or covering your eyes. There are subjects from horror pop culture while others crawled straight from a dark imagination. About the only thing that won’t send a shiver down your spine is the cost, as the show is free to the public. So before setting out to scare or be scared, for inspiration make a stop over to Soulard at the corner of 12th and Russell. Your nightmares will thank you later.
